Most of us do not think twice about smiling, but for some smiling does not come easily if we are worried about having a gummy smile. An optimal smile appears balanced with just enough gum and teeth showing.
Genetics are often responsible for a top lip that is either hyperactive or too short. When the top lip is hyperactive, the muscle that controls the skin between the nose and mouth overworks to show too much of the teeth and gums when smiling and laughing.this can be easily relaxed and less gum shown by treating the muscle with anti-wrinkle injections.๏ปฟ
A thorough consultation is carried out by Dr Sandy and the mouth area is assessed alongside the rest of your features to define locations for the Anti-wrinkle injections. The injection sites are cleansed and a tiny insulin needle is used. Only two areas either side of the nose are injected.
Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most well tolerated procedures with little or no pain reported. There is no recovery time from Anti-wrinkle injection treatment. You can leave the clinic straight away, without anyone noticing you have had treatment.
Studies have not been performed on women who are breastfeeding or pregnant. Although treatments are not thought to be dangerous, it is best avoided during this time.
If you have any nerve diseases or muscle weakness, anti-wrinkle treatment is not advised. It is important to let Dr Sandy know if there is a family history of such diseases – for example Myasthenia Gravis or previously suffered from Bell’s Palsy. During the initial consultation, a full medical history will be taken.
The full effect of the treatment may take up to 2-3 weeks to become noticeable.
There are very few side effects associated with treatment. Once treatment has been carried out, Dr Sandy will go through the aftercare and there is occasional risk of redness, bruising and swelling due to the face having many blood vessels.
Guidelines suggest that treatments will last from between 3 to 6 months. In practice, it tends to be anywhere between this. Lifestyle factors (such as smoking, alcohol and exercise), skin type and area of the face treated all play a role in duration of result.
The Botox will need to wear off and gummy smile will return in 3-4 months
