Excessive sweating can be due to a variety of reasons and the most common reason is the genetic or family history. Other causes such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease can also cause this. If your hyperhidrosis is new, we recommend consulting with your GP to rule out other causes.
A thorough consultation is carried out by Dr Sandy and the affected area is assessed define locations for Botox injections. The injection sites are cleansed and a tiny insulin needle is used.
Botox injections are one of the most well tolerated procedures with little or no pain reported. This treatment has been used in the NHS and privately for many years. There is no recovery time from Anti-wrinkle injection treatment. You can leave the clinic straight away, without anyone noticing you have had treatment.
Studies have not been performed on women who are breastfeeding or pregnant. Although treatments are not thought to be dangerous, it is best avoided during this time.
If you have any nerve diseases or muscle weakness, anti-wrinkle treatment is not advised. It is important to let Dr Sandy know if there is a family history of such diseases – for example Myasthenia Gravis or previously suffered from Bell’s Palsy. During the initial consultation, a full medical history will be taken.
The full effect of the treatment may take up to 2-3 weeks to become noticeable.
There are very few side effects associated with treatment. Once treatment has been carried out, Dr Sandy will go through the aftercare and there is occasional risk of redness, bruising and swelling due to the face having many blood vessels.
Rarely, patients can report soreness or swelling which usually disappears within 24 hours. Dr Sandy will go into detail as to how this can be prevented.
Guidelines suggest that treatments will last from between 3 to 6 months. In practice, it tends to be anywhere between this. Lifestyle factors (such as smoking, alcohol and exercise), skin type and area of the face treated all play a role in duration of result.
